Peran hutan dalam mitigasi perubahan iklim sudah diakui berbagai pihak. Namun demikian, data tutupan lahan dan simpanan karbon berbagai tipe ekosistem hutan di Jawa masih terbatas dan terus memerlukan pendugaan simpanan terkininya, khususnya di hutan lindung. Pendugaan simpanan karbon di hutan lindung sangat terbatas karena larangan untuk pengambilan contoh secara
destruktif. Salah satu pendekatan yang memungkinkan adalah menggunakan analisis penginderaan jauh, yang memanfaatkan nilai digital berupa indeks vegetasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kawasan Hutan Lindung Kabupaten Bantul, yang sebelum tahun 2007 merupakan hutan produksi. Hutan lindung ini terbagi dalam beberapa blok dan tersebar dengan luas total 1018,85 hektar. Tujuan
penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkuantifikasi perubahan luasan tutupan lahan hutan sebelum dan sesudah ditetapkan menjadi hutan lindung, menyusun model pendugaan karbon di atas permukaan tanah dari nilai indeks vegetasi Normalized Divergence Vegetation Index (NDVI) Citra Landsat, dan memprediksi simpanan karbon tahun 1999, 2006, 2008, dan 2016.
Simpanan karbon dihitung dari biomassa di atas permukaan tanah dengan metode non destruktif melalui bantuan model allometrik hasil penelitian destruktif yang sudah ada. Biomassa diduga dari pengukuran diameter dan tinggi vegetasi tingkat tiang dan pohon yang dilakukan secara terestris pada 144 petak berbentuk lingkaran dengan jari-jari 11,28 meter. Lokasi sampel ditentukan menggunakan
metode stratifikasi berdasar hasil interpretasi citra dengan metode unsupervised, persebaran jenis tanaman, nilai NDVI, dan aksesibilitas.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa luas tutupan hutan tahun 2016, 2008, 2006, dan 1999 secara berurutan sebesar 870,41 ha (85%), 364,97 ha (36%), 432,01 ha (42%), dan 262,59 ha (26% dari total luas hutan lindung). Model pendugaan karbon di atas permukaan tanah (ton C/ha) adalah y = 5881.3*(NDVI 3) - 10354*(NDVI 2) + 6078.4*(NDVI) - 1182. Total simpanan karbon setelah 10 tahun perubahan fungsi hutan dari produksi menjadi lindung (tahun 2016) meningkat cukup besar, yaitu 25,27 ton C/ha, dibandingkan dengan tahun 2008, 2006, dan 1999 secara berurutan sebesar 0,47 ton C/ha, 0,91 ton C/ha, dan 2,69 ton C/ha.

ABSTRACT

The role of the forest in climate change mitigation has been widely recognized. However, the land cover data and carbon stocks of various ecosystem forests in Java are still limited and require updating of carbon stock, especially in protected forest. The estimation of carbon stock in protected forest are limited because prohibition for destructive sampling. One of the possibility approach was by utilizing vegetation index in remote sensing data. This research was conducted in the protected forest in Bantul district that before 2007 was appointed as production forest. This protected forest was fragmented into some blocks with an area total of 1081,85 hectares. The study aimed to 1) quantify the land cover changes before and after appointed as protected forest, 2) develop model to
estimate aboveground carbon from Normalized Divergence Vegetation Index (NDVI) of Landsat imagery, and 3) predict the carbon stock in 1999, 2006, 2008, and 2016.
Carbon stocks were calculated from aboveground biomass with nondestructive method using available allometric models. The biomass were estimated from measurement of diameter and height of poles and trees within 144 plots in circle-shaped with radius 11,28 m. The sample location were determined using stratification based on image interpretation with unsupervised method, distribution of tree species, NDVI value, and accessibility. The results of research show that forest cover area in 2016, 2008, 2006, and 1999 were 870,41 ha (85%), 364,97 ha (36%), 432,01 ha (42%), and 262,59
ha (26% of protected forest total area), respectively. The model to estimate aboveground carbon (ton C/ha) was C = 5881.3*(NDVI 3) - 10354*(NDVI 2) +6078.4*(NDVI) - 1182. The total of carbon stocks after 10 years of appointment of protected forest from production (in 2016) were increased considerably, that was 25,27 ton C/ha, compared with 2008, 2006, and 1999 were 0,47, ton C/ha, 0,91 ton C/ha, dan 2,69 ton C/ha, respectively.
